Benjamin Rivers

Raph Koster – Game designer, author, speaker

Since 1993, he has been making virtual worlds, starting with LegendMUD. He was the creative lead on Ultima Online and later led design on Star Wars Galaxies as Creative Director at Sony Online Entertainment. In 2006, he founded Metaplace, a platform for user-created virtual worlds. He consulted with companies including Google, Facebook, and Activision from 2010-2018. He wrote A Theory of Fun for Game Design. He has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama and a BA in English (Creative Writing) and Spanish from Washington College. He was born on Long Island in 1971.
