Thembi Soddell

Their work focuses on representing and understanding the felt mental impact of trauma, emotional distress and so-called mental illness through abstract, acousmatic sound. Thembi completed their PhD at RMIT University in 2019. In 2020 they received a Regional Arts Victoria Fellowship to research access, sustaining arts practice, and present their work with sound and mental health to their local community. Their work has been shown at galleries such as MONA, ACCA, NGV and SFMOMA, among others. Thembi is non-binary and lives on Dja Dja Wurrung Country, ‘Australia’.
