Johannes Haage was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany. He began playing violin at age 5, switching to guitar about eight years later. He has studied with Bill Frisell, Brad Shepik, Ben Monder, Mark Turner, Dave Douglas, Drew Gress, and Ralph Alessi. Since 2002, he has been an active member of the jazz and improvised music scene in Berlin, playing with many musicians. He leads his own groups, including Johannes Haage´s P.O.5, the Slowtrio, and the Johannes Haage Trio. His current main band is the Trio DRIFT, which has four albums out on shoebill music.
