Edward Packard was born in 1931 in Huntington, New York, and grew up there. He graduated from Princeton and Columbia Law School, and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a lawyer before becoming a full-time writer. Packard conceived of the idea and wrote the prototype and first book for Bantam’s Choose Your Own Adventure series. He wrote other books in the series and created other works of fiction and non-fiction, including Imagining the Universe (1994), which received a Scientific American book award. In December, 2024, he licensed six of his original Choose Your Own Adventure books for reissue by ChooseCo. The first of them, The Cave of Time, was released on August 5, 2025. The second, The Mystery of Chimney Rock, is due out in November.
