Heather Burns is a tech policy wonk based in Glasgow, Scotland. She works for an open web built around international standards of human rights, privacy, accessibility, and freedom of expression. She advocates for policy and technology developments which keep the internet open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. Heather is currently freelancing in the UK policy x digital and human rights space. She is also doing an MPhil in technology regulation and human rights at Strathclyde Law School. She is the author of a book on practical privacy for web professionals and students, published by Smashing Magazine in November 2022. Also in 2022, she completed the Internet Society Mid-Career Fellowship.

Matthew James Taylor is an artist, designer, and author. He created his website to share his passions in art, design, web development, and architecture. He loves to explore the junction where technology and creativity meet. Matthew has been creating art for over 45 years. His father, Kevin Taylor, was a professional artist and inspired him creatively from an early age. Matthew has over two decades of professional experience as a web developer. He is the author of "Babysitting Business Secrets" and co-authored "The Land of No Horizon" with his father. Matthew studied human anatomy and classical drawings at Julian Ashton Art School. One of his favorite pastimes is designing small houses. In 1994, he created his first comic strip, Ogga the Cane Toad. Matthew has grapheme-color synesthesia, where he sees letters and numbers as colors.

Jean Yang runs Engineering, Product, and Design for the Postman Insights product. She arrived there via the acquisition of her startup, Akita. She is also a scout for a16z, investing small checks in early-stage startups. Jean has a PhD in Computer Science from MIT, with a focus on programming languages. Before starting Akita, she was a tenure-track professor at Carnegie Mellon University. She was profiled in The MIT Tech Review’s 2016 “35 Under 35.” During the pandemic, she co-produced two Zoom-to-Twitch reality shows, Zoom Bachelorette and Zoom Bachelor. She is a member of the San Mateo County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commitee. Her goal is to make it easy for everyone to build software.

Elijah is a designer and developer. He enjoys building things for the web. He is currently building things at Render. Previously, he was building things at Netlify. He likes React, TypeScript, and CSS. He also enjoys photography and playing video games.

Raph Koster is a game designer, author, and speaker. He is currently CEO and Creative Director at Playable Worlds, where he’s building Stars Reach. Since 1993, he has been making virtual worlds, starting with LegendMUD. He was the creative lead on Ultima Online and later led design on Star Wars Galaxies as Creative Director at Sony Online Entertainment. In 2006, he founded Metaplace, a platform for user-created virtual worlds. He consulted with companies including Google, Facebook, and Activision from 2010-2018. He wrote A Theory of Fun for Game Design. He has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama and a BA in English (Creative Writing) and Spanish from Washington College. He was born on Long Island in 1971.

Noel Rappin is a Staff Engineer at Chime Financial. Before that, he worked at Root Insurance, Table XI, Groupon, and Obtiva. He is a web developer and has authored multiple technical books including Programming Ruby, Modern Front-End Programming with Rails, Modern CSS with Tailwind, and Rails 5 Test Prescriptions. Noel is also the co-author of wxPython in Action, and Jython Essentials. Noel hosted the Tech Done Right podcast.

Joshua Blais is a walking paraplegic from Edmonton, Canada. He is a developer, author, and father. He has returned to the Catholic Faith. With over 14 years in federal healthcare, she focuses on geriatric pharmacy, chronic disease management, and whole health. She helps families make clear, practical decisions and moderates a national geriatric pharmacy teleconference. Zubila is committed to lifelong learning, inclusive leadership, and helping patients thrive through preventative and functional medicine. She is building an in-person grief support group for children in Asheville. She is also a mother of two school-aged boys and a daughter of Pakistani immigrants.

Siddesh Pai is a ghostwriter and stand-up comedian originally from Mumbai, now based in Toronto. He runs a solo writing business, helping founders and executives grow their personal brands through story-driven content. Ricky lives in California. He spent much of his 20s as a freelance video producer. Noticing that his opportunities arose from personal connections, he developed a networking process. This process involved making memorable first connections, efficiently managing information, and following up to close deals. Seeing the need for a user-friendly platform to facilitate this, he created Pulse to help people connect, share, create, and follow up with like-minded individuals for productive relationships.
